Choosing A Cooking School For Your Child

The most important part of any Cooking School for your kid is that they have FUN! Once it becomes too educational you know they will quickly see it is a a chore and not fun time.

Before you spend the “dough” on a cooking school be sure you evaluate the interest of your child. I did not enroll Rachel in a cooking class until I saw her watching cooking shows on TV (particularly Rachael Ray!) and until I saw her take an active interest in cooking at home.  After some time I decided she was ready! Since I myself am not much of a cook I knew giving her a real place to go and learn the proper way to cook was an important part of her education and learning life skills I could not offer her.

Here are a few things to look for when choosing a cooking school to send your child too:

1) Make sure the location is fun. Our facility is filled with color and is very kid friendly!

2) Meet the instructors. Make sure they are warm and friendly and seem open and personable. You will have questions along the way so make sure they have an open communication policy.

3) Meet the owner – our owner Lyle is WONDERFUL and friendly. This WILL make a difference in the staff and experience as a whole.

4) Variation in classes. Make sure they offer a large variety of cooking techniques from baking to boiling to dicing and chopping – the schedule should be one that includes many styles of cooking as well as cooking from different countries.

5) Be sure they allow you to sit in from time to time so you can evaluate  your child’s level of interest. If you are spending money and they are bored – then it is time to move on!

These are a few of the important factors to consider when choosing the right school. We got lucky with ours – and I could not have asked for a better experience for Rachel and I hope you are just as lucky in your search!

Rachel attends the Young Chefs Academy in our hometown – they have locations throughout the United States but each are independently owned and operated. We will be compiling a list of schools in the near future so stay tuned!

Summer Camp For Little Chefs

I love summer! I love swimming and catching lightening bugs. I love seeing friends and going to carnivals!

And I still love to cook! This is the first year I asked my mom to not send me to summer camp – the kind where we do arts & crafts, play sports and swim that is. But she is letting me go to a Summer Camp for kids that cook!

Young Chef's Academy School For Kids

I go to Young Chefs Academy all year round and and am almost at the level where I will earn my Black Coat! I have learned a lot there and now I found out there is a Summer Camp there too.

Each week they have a 3 day camp that features a different theme. One week will be making chocolate things like chocolate ravioli, chocolate silk pie and another week may be Italia where we bake pizza pasta or lasagna.Cooking Summer Camps

I want to go to all of them, but mom said I can pick 2 since we have a lot of fun things going on this summer!

I love my school and think this will be a lot of fun! Do you go to a cooking summer camp? If so please let me know I would love to hear about it and let other kids know about it.
